
Why your bathroom heater shouldn’t feel like a landing strip
If you’ve ever used a high-ceiling infrared heater, you know the deal. They usually blast short-wave radiation to push heat across the room. But here’s the problem: in a bathroom—especially when you’re taking care of a baby—that blinding glare from a standard halogen tube is just too much. Nobody wants a spotlight in their eyes during a diaper change. We figured out a better way. Taming the light Most infrared lamps throw out a huge range of light, including that harsh, bright white stuff. To fix that, we use special coatings or doped quartz glass. Think of it as a filter. It knocks out those sharp blue-light peaks and kills the glare. You still get all the cozy warmth you need, but without the “staring into the sun” feeling. We basically trim the visible light and keep the heat exactly where it belongs—in that sweet spot between 700nm and 1000nm. The guts of the machine We use high-purity quartz tubes for a reason. These things can handle being flipped on and off rapidly without cracking under the pressure. Then there are the reflectors. We use polished aluminum or gold plating to make sure the heat actually goes down toward you, rather than wasting energy by heating up your ceiling. The wiring is where it gets tricky. You can’t just crank up the wattage to get more heat. If you over-drive the lamp, you risk bringing back that blinding light or just burning out the filament entirely. It’s all about finding that perfect balance between light and warmth. The honest trade-offs Look, nothing is perfect. When you filter the light, you lose a tiny bit of raw efficiency. A clear tube is technically “better” at moving energy, but we’ll take a slight dip in efficiency any day if it means your eyes aren’t straining. One more thing: airflow matters. Even with the filters, the lamp head gets hot. If the housing isn’t vented properly, the internal parts will basically cook themselves. We make sure there’s plenty of room for the unit to breathe so it lasts.
