Don’t Overdo the Power
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people buying the most powerful heater they can find, thinking “more is better.” It’s not. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), 400W to 600W is plenty. You’ll be warm without feeling like you’re in a sauna. For those medium-sized bathrooms (around 6m² to 10m²), you’re looking at 800W to 1200W. Go too high in a small space and you’re just burning money. Plus, you risk tripping your breakers or making the room feel stifling. Here’s the thing about shortwave infrared: it doesn’t bother heating the air. It hits you directly. You feel that warmth the second you step under it, but just keep in mind that the initial power draw is a bit higher.
The Nitty-Gritty of Installation
More wattage means more heat, but it also means more stress on your wiring. Make sure your cables can actually handle the load. If they’re too thin, you’ll get voltage drops, which leads to flickering lamps and a much shorter lifespan for your equipment. We use quartz glass for the lamps because it holds its temperature well. But quartz is finicky. If a drop of cold water hits a scorching hot element, it can crack—we call that thermal shock. That’s exactly why that IP55 housing is so important; it acts as a shield.
Making it Last
Want to get the most bang for your buck? Keep your heaters away from drafty windows. You want to create a “warm zone,” not try to fight a breeze. And for the love of your electricity bill, use a timer or a motion sensor. There’s no point in heating an empty room. It saves you cash and keeps the lamps from burning out way too early.
