
Why we put our bathroom lamps through a “humidity torture test”
We don’t just put these lamps in a box and call it a day. That would be a disaster. Instead, every single unit goes through a brutal damp-heat aging cycle. Think about it. A bathroom is basically a steam room that occasionally gets blasted with heat. It’s a nightmare for electronics. If a seal isn’t perfect, the lamp is toast. The battle between water and heat Here’s the thing: water vapor and high-voltage heating elements do not get along. When you flip the switch, that lamp jumps from freezing to 500°C in seconds. In a steamy room, the quartz glass and the metal caps expand at different speeds. It’s a constant tug-of-war. We use our aging tests to find exactly where that seal might give up. If even a tiny bit of moisture sneaks in to hit the filament, it causes oxidation. The filament thins out, gets weak, and then—snap. Hunting for the weak spots To stop that from happening in your home, we lock our lamps in chambers with 95% humidity at high temperatures for hundreds of hours. We’re looking for something called “creepage.” It’s basically when electricity decides to take a shortcut across a damp surface. We also keep a close eye on the R7s and SK15 connectors. If the plating on those contacts is too thin, the humidity eats right through it. That creates resistance. Resistance creates a hot spot. And a hot spot can actually melt the plastic housing. Not exactly what you want in your bathroom. It’s a balancing act You might think, “Just seal it airtight then!” But it’s not that simple. If we make the housing too tight, the pressure builds up inside when the lamp hits peak heat. That pressure can actually crack the glass. So, we spend a lot of time tweaking the venting. We want air to move, but we want the water to stay out. It’s a lot of work, but it means you get a lamp that doesn’t just quit after three months of winter showers. We check the wattage and insulation one last time after the torture test to make sure everything is still solid. If it can survive our chamber, it can handle your bathroom.
