
How to actually heat a wet room (without killing your equipment)
If you’ve ever tried to warm up a changing room or a drafty patio, you know the struggle. Throwing a standard heater in there usually doesn’t work because you’re just trying to heat the air—and the air just floats away. That’s why we stick with infrared. Instead of fighting the breeze, infrared sends heat straight to the person. It’s like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a cold day. You feel it instantly. No waiting around, no shivering while the room “warms up.” Just immediate warmth.
Why it hits different
We use short-wave infrared for this stuff. The best part? There’s no lag. You flip the switch, and the element hits its peak temperature right away. Forget those clunky oil heaters that take twenty minutes to get going. With a high-density infrared setup, the heat is just there. It’s a direct hit of warmth the second you walk under it.
Dealing with the damp
Here is the tricky part: water and electricity don’t get along. In a locker room or an outdoor deck, moisture is everywhere. If a bit of water leaks into the guts of the heater, you’re looking at short circuits or burnt-out filaments. To stop that, we wrap everything in IP-rated housings (usually IP44 or IP65). Basically, we seal the internals so splashes and dust can’t get in. But there’s a catch. If you seal it too tight, the heat stays trapped inside the box and can fry the electronics. It’s a delicate balance.
The “gotchas” of installation
Before you start mounting these, check your power. These lamps pull a lot of juice. If your wiring is too thin or your breakers are old, you’re going to be tripping the power every time you turn the heat on. Make sure your electrical spec can actually handle the load. And a heads-up on the spacing: because those waterproof seals trap heat, you can’t just cram a dozen units into a tiny ceiling. If you do, you’ll create “hotspots” that can wear down the hardware. Spread them out based on the BTU output. Give the units some breathing room. Your equipment will last way longer, and your guests won’t feel like they’re standing under a heat lamp at a buffet.
